Homemade Coconut Milk

Making your own coconut milk is very easy and gives it a natural, fresh taste that you rarely find in the supermarket. When you make your own coconut milk, you know exactly what's in it – no preservatives or additives. Here's a simple recipe for homemade coconut milk.

Ingredients:
- 1 fresh coconut
- 700 ml hot water
- Optional: a pinch of salt or a little sweetener such as maple syrup, agave syrup, sugar or honey

Prepare the coconut:
If you're using a fresh coconut, you'll first need to open it and remove the coconut flesh. Crack the coconut open with a hammer or a heavy knife. You can then scrape out the flesh with a knife or a spoon and roughly chop it.

To make coconut milk:
Place the coconut flesh or shredded coconut in a blender and add the hot water. Blend for about 2-3 minutes until the mixture is nice and creamy.

Separate the coconut milk from the solids by pouring the mixture through a fine sieve, a cotton cloth, or a nut milk bag. Squeeze the solids well to extract as much liquid as possible. Pour the fresh coconut milk into a clean container. You can store it in the refrigerator and use it within 3-4 days. This method yields a wonderfully creamy coconut milk, perfect for curries, smoothies, or desserts – making your own coconut milk has never been easier!

If you're using a juicer, simply add the coconut flesh and 2 cups of water to the juicer and you'll have delicious coconut milk. Making your own coconut milk is quick and easy with a juicer.

Tips:
You can use leftover coconut flakes for baking, mix them into smoothies, or dry them and use them as coconut flour. Making your own coconut milk is not only easy, but also sustainable if you cleverly reuse the leftovers.
